Are You Interested in Serving as a Director on Bremerton School District's Board?
Director positions 1, 2, and 3 will be on the November ballot this year. Incumbents are Scott Rahm, David Rubie, and Ken Watkins, respectively. At this time, Director Rahm has announced that he will not be seeking re-election. Interested candidates for office must file the week of May 11-15, 2015 at the Kitsap County Auditor’s Office, Elections Division, at 619 Division St., Port Orchard. A person may become a candidate for a place on the Board by filing a declaration of candidacy with the county auditor during the May filing period as prescribed by law. In the event that there are more than two candidates for any position on the Board, a primary election shall be held on the third Tuesday of August in the manner prescribed by law. The two candidates receiving the greatest number of votes will appear on the election ballot in November.
The Washington State School Directors' Association (WSSDA) features workshops for potential school directors. They will hold a series of 14 workshops throughout Washington in March and April to encourage citizens to learn about and consider school board service. Agendas include how to run for office and roles and responsibilities of school board directors. Pre-registration is recommended. For more information, visit their site at www.wssda.org.
The Bremerton School Board of Directors is made up of five citizens who are elected from within the school district's boundaries. They serve four-year terms and are responsible for approving policies, curriculum, and the district's budget. The Board meets most first and third Thursdays at 5:00 pm in our district Administration Building Board Room, located at 134 Marion Avenue North. Exceptions are November, December, April and July when we meet only once a month. Visit our Library area for a schedule of this year's regular Board meetings.
