SUMMARY:

Written and visual information will be provided regarding the staff proposed secondary school attendance boundary recommendations – including the establishment of an attendance boundary for Tuscarora High School (opening in Fall 2010).

The establishment of the staff recommended secondary school attendance boundaries resulted in a review of the current attendance areas of Belmont Ridge Middle School, Eagle Ridge Middle School, Farmwell Station Middle School, Harper Park Middle School, J. Lupton Simpson Middle School, Mercer Middle School, Smart’s Mill Middle School, Stone Hill Middle School, Briar Woods High School, Heritage High School, Loudoun County High School, and Stone Bridge High School. Community and student demographics, residential development patterns, and School Board policy were components in formulating the recommendations.

Two public hearings have been scheduled for comment on the secondary school attendance boundary recommendations; the hearing dates are Monday, March 23, 2009 and Wednesday, March 25, 2009. The hearings will begin at 6:30 p.m. and be held at the Loudoun County Public Schools Administration Building. Following the two public hearings, a work session for the School Board to discuss and further review the recommended attendance boundary changes will be held on the evening of Thursday, April 16, 2009.

The School Board is currently scheduled to adopt school attendance boundary changes, including the establishment of an attendance boundary for Tuscarora High School, on Tuesday, April 28, 2009. Middle school attendance boundary changes adopted by the School Board will be implemented in Fall 2009, at the beginning of the 2009-10 school year; high school attendance boundary changes adopted by the School Board will take effect at the start of the 2010-11 school year – coinciding with the opening of Tuscarora High School.
