SUBJECT:

Recommended Ten-Point Grading Scale for LCPS

SUMMARY:

The School Board instructed the Superintendent to present a recommended ten-point grade scale to implement the Board’s recent adoption of a change in the grading scale used in Loudoun County middle and high schools. After careful consideration of a number of variations on ten-point scales in use in school systems across America the superintendent and staff, including principals, decided on a number of parameters for the scale to be adopted in Loudoun County. As a result of that research and discussion, the Superintendent recommends the adoption of the following scale at the School Board meeting on March 24, 2009. Additional information about recommendations for weighting grades will be presented to the School Board for consideration in May.
