SUBJECT: Student Achievement Goal 1.1.1 – English Language Arts

BACKGROUND:

On December 7, 2006, the School Board approved the Student Achievement Goal 1.1.1 reasonable interpretation and indicators. This presentation will provide an update on work in progress and performance measures in place to ensure successful attainment of the School Board goals.

KEY POINTS:

The presentation will describe the English language arts assessments and the additional work being done to prepare students for success in the 21st century. These strategic actions will result in expanded resources for teachers and enhanced learning opportunities for students. As a result, students will acquire critical thinking and problem solving skills and the ability to evaluate and synthesize information in order to become life-long learners.

RECOMMENDATION:

That the School Board accept the report as a reasonable interpretation of the Board’s goals, including indicators to measure attainment of the goal, the timeline, and the aspirational expectation of Student Achievement Goal 1.1.1 – English Language Arts.
