BACKGROUND:

On December 7, 2006, the School Board approved the Student Achievement Goal 1.2, Languages, reasonable interpretation and indicators. This presentation will provide an update on work done to date and performance measures in place to ensure successful attainment of the School Board goals.

KEY POINTS:

The presentation will further clarify expectations for Limited English proficient students and define foreign language proficiency as communicatively competent in a second language.

RECOMMENDATION:

That the School Board accept the report as a reasonable interpretation of the board’s goals, including indicators to measure attainment of the goal, the timeline, and the aspirational expectation of Student Achievement Goal 1.2., Communicate in at least two languages.
