SUBJECT: Student Achievement Goal 1.1.2 - Mathematics

TYPE: Action

RELATED TO: Student Achievement Goal 1

BACKGROUND:

On December 7, 2006, the School Board approved the Student Achievement Goal 1.1.2 reasonable interpretation and indicators. This presentation will provide an update on work in progress and performance measures in place to ensure successful attainment of the School Board goals.

KEY POINTS:

This presentation will describe the work being done in mathematics to prepare students for success in the 21st century. Strategic actions based on current educational research will be implemented to assure that all students reach their full academic potential and relate that potential to their post secondary educational and career goals. Focused assessment for instruction in Kindergarten through Algebra II, increasing algebra enrollment by Grade 8, implementation of common problem solving strategies and encouraging students to pursue mathematics beyond Algebra II will result in students setting goals for their academic and post academic life.
