I. PURPOSE

Standards for Equipping Schools

, which can be accessed at

, shall provide, in a single publication, a list of those equipment items considered to be basic to the conduct of approved educational (instructional and instructional support) programs. The standards shall be used to:

1. Provide a list of basic standardized equipment for equipping schools based on approved educational programs.

2. Enable central staff members to quickly compute, through automation, the basic requirements for outfitting new schools and the systemwide requirements of new or revised programs.

3. Help the local school program manager to readily ascertain the basic items required to outfit a facility to accommodate a new or upgraded program and enable program managers to evaluate their current equipping status.

Standards for Equipping Schools

shall provide a common standard to:

1. Compare the equipping status of schools so as to equalize allocation of available capital outlay (additional equipment) funds.

2. Determine those items that will require special staff review prior to their procurement.

Standards for Equipping Schools

shall not be used to restrict any educational activity to the items listed therein, either as to type or quantity. However, program managers shall be required to coordinate program-equipping levels with the appropriate program specialists and functional managers. All requirements, including those for nonstandard equipment items, shall require the approval of the cluster director or assistant superintendent, as appropriate, prior to procurement.
