Hendrick Hudson Central School District
Maximizing Potential
The Board of Education is the policy-making, corporate body of the Hendrick Hudson Central School District, responsible for the general supervision of the schools through setting policy and board goals. It hears reports and receives information on progress toward its goals and on other matters that reflect policy. The seven elected members of the Board serve staggered terms of three years. Board members serve without compensation.

Board members act as the corporate body of the District when they are convened as a group; at all other times they are private residents. The Superintendent of Schools is the Board's appointed executive officer, with delegated authority for the operation of the schools.

Public Board meetings typically occur twice a month from September through July and once during the month of August. The public is welcome to observe the meetings and has an opportunity for comment at designated times in the agenda. Board work sessions, while open to the public, do not provide opportunity for audience comments. Executive sessions address matters that must, by law, be private. Board of Education meetings are usually scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month, and are held in the Hendrick Hudson High School Library, except where noted.

The Board urges residents to use the normal chain of command to answer questions or resolve school concerns. For example, matters that pertain to a particular teacher would be discussed first with the teacher, then with the principal, then with the appropriate Assistant Superintendent or the Superintendent of Schools. However, the Board does include times at public meetings for audience comment on matters of general interest. The Board President is responsible for orderly meeting conduct, ruling on matters such as the time allowed for audience comment and appropriateness of subject matter.

Community members participate in the work of the District through discussions with staff, Board meetings, committees, advisory groups, and volunteer service. Parent-teacher organizations work with principals to address matters of school-wide importance. In addition, the PTA Officers meet with the Superintendent on a regular basis throughout the school year.

The Board of Education welcomes communication from the public. Correspondence should be addressed to:

BOE meeting broadcasts can be viewed on Cable Channel 77 at 7:00 a.m., 12 noon and 7:00 p.m. every day.

The Board holds informal Meet and Greets at local establishments for the community to come out and communicate with the two or three members of the Board at a time. See our home page for those dates and times.

In May, residents vote on the budget and on candidates for the Board.
