MSIP Standard 7.3 states “Career education is an integral component of the educational program.” Career education programs must have competency-based curricula, career and technical student organizations, assistance in transitioning to the workplace and/or continued education, and an accountability system to assess student progress and program effectiveness. In the R-7 School District, career education involves five programs: Business, Family & Consumer Sciences, Marketing/Cooperative Career Education (CCE), Health Sciences, and Trade & Industrial Education (includes Project Lead the Way courses, Entertainment Media Technology, and Electronics Engineering).
MSIP Performance Standard 9.4 states “The percent of students demonstrating adequate preparation for postsecondary education and/or employment is high or increasing.” The status of this standard will be detailed in this report.
In order to keep our programs strong, an annual evaluation was conducted with help from all career education teachers and Career Pathways Advisory Team members. A variety of data is used to evaluate the overall goals of career education. The evaluation includes:
• Goals of the program.
• Current objectives and a plan of action for each program area.
• Evaluation criteria including the Report for Local Program Quality Improvement submitted to the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for each program area.
• Procedures for gathering, analyzing and reporting data.
A summary of that review has been provided for your information. The career education programs are evaluated annually, with information being reported to the Board of Education in February.
