Agenda Item Content
To provide an instructional programming component for the R-7 Aquatics Center, the Physical Education/Health department and the high school principals have developed a swimming curriculum for the 2010-11 school year.

This proposed curriculum consists of two courses, Swimming I and Swimming II. These courses were not presented in the same timeframe as Physics II and Advanced Video Technology due to the time required for the department and administration to process some logistical items such as teacher certification, scheduling, transportation, and budget considerations.

No additional staffing will be required to support this curriculum, and teacher certification costs will be awarded through existing budgets. Currently, we have two Physical Education teachers who have expressed a desire to be certified to teach these courses.

Students will take these courses in a daily block of time from 7:15-8:45 a.m. at the Aquatics Center and will be transported back to their respective high schools in time for 3rd hour classes. Students will be responsible for their own transportation to the Aquatics Center. Transportation costs will be covered by existing budgets.

The course descriptions and rationales for Swimming I and Swimming II are attached.
