The Lee's Summit High School Team Driven, the Lee’s Summit North High School Broncobots and the Lee's Summit West Team Titanium, all FIRST Robotics teams, competed in the national FIRST Robotics Championship, held April 16 through 18 in Atlanta, Ga.   All three teams qualified for nationals by capturing awards at regional competitions. LSNHS and LSWHS qualified by winning the Chairman's Award, and LSHS qualified by winning the Engineering Inspiration Award.

The R-7 School District was the only district nationwide to qualify three robotics teams for the national championship this year. Lee's Summit was also the smallest city to send three or more teams.

Lee's Summit North ranked third in its division, which included 87 teams, with a record of 6-1 at the For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology Championship. The three teams received substantial community support as individuals and businesses donated money to help the students travel to the national competition.
