PROMOTION AND RETENTION OF STUDENTS
HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
END-OF-YEAR PROMOTION
The minimum number of credits accrued by a student prior to placement in grade level home rooms are as follows:
Grade 9 to 10 5 Credits (Two of the five credits must be earned in the following subjects: English, science, math, and social studies)
Grade 10 to 11 11 Credits (Five of the eleven credits must be earned in the following subjects: English, science, math, or social studies)
Grade 11 to 12 18 Credits (Nine of the eighteen credits must be earned in the following subjects: English science, math, or social studies)
MID-YEAR PROMOTION
A student who has been retained may be promoted mid-year if that student has the potential to earn enough credits during the second semester to move ahead to the next grade level.
Repeat 9th Grader:
Must have earned enough credits through mid-year that, if all credits are earned during the second semester, the student will have at least 11 credits. (Five of the eleven credits must be earned in the core subjects).
Repeat 10th Grader:
Must have earned enough credits through mid-year that, if all credits are earned during the second semester, the student will have at least 18 credits. (Nine of the eighteen credits must be earned in the core subjects).
Repeat 11th Grader:
Must have earned enough credits through mid-year that, if all credits are earned during the second semester, the student will meet all credit requirements for graduation.
