ACCEPTABLE USE OF TECHNOLOGY IN SCHOOLS
The Cecil County Board of Education expects that users of Cecil County Public Schools’ equipment, resources, and services use technology in an ethical, responsible, and legal manner.
THE INTERNET
The Internet, a global electronic information infrastructure, offers the capability for students and staff to access and share information on an international scale. Students and staff can use this resource to further the educational goals and objectives of the Cecil County Public Schools. Technology provides an unprecedented, world-wide, diverse array of resources to schools and classrooms that support and enrich the curriculum. Understanding how to access this wealth of information and how to communicate electronically are fundamental skills in the world in which our students are citizens and future employees.
Our goal in providing Internet services to students and staff is to promote educational excellence in schools by facilitating resource sharing, innovation, and communication. Accessing information resources can be a great motivation, encouraging independent and critical thinking.
Internet access in the Cecil County Public Schools is provided for school-related, academic and administrative activities only, and must be in compliance with prescribed regulations associated with this policy.
NETWORKS
Network infrastructure links technology within and between school and is the backbone of connectivity. Servers, computers and peripheral devices attached to these networks are therefore subject to restrictions that facilitate responsible use of this shared resource. Stipulations that govern the use of, and access to, our network infrastructure are included in administrative regulations associated with this policy.
DATA FILES
Data Files that contain information needed for specific system tasks are stored and managed in a manner consistent with administrative regulations. These data sources are protected, with access restricted to authorized users with legitimate data needs.
SOFTWARE
Software that supports instruction and administrative functioning of the Cecil County Public Schools is installed and utilized in a manner consistent with the administrative regulations.
INFRASTRUCTURE
Equipment, servers, network components, web sites, data files, licensed software, and network infrastructure are assets of the Cecil County Public Schools. Any tampering, destruction, or willful misuse of these elements will be treated in the same context as damage to other system assets.
The Superintendent will establish administrative regulations as required to govern the measures necessary to implement this policy.
