District administration shall maintain a current set of educational specifications for each level of instruction. The educational specifications shall describe the facility requirements to accommodate the instructional program, activities and support functions and shall be a model standard for planning and designing new or renovating existing schools.
Educational specifications are dynamic and changes in concert with changes in the educational program. Educational specifications shall be reviewed and updated periodically based on need. The primary elements of the educational specification shall include:
A general description of the educational program and grades to be housed, optimal enrollment and organizational plan;
A summary of space requirement by area;
A detailed description of each instructional, administrative and support area defining specific and unique features and space requirements;
Spatial relationships of areas; and
Site facility requirements.
Technical Guidelines for Design and Construction
It is the District's goal to promote uniformity and consistent quality standards in the design and construction of district facilities. The district shall maintain an outline of minimum acceptable standards for products, materials and systems unique to district facilities. Minimum design and installation standards, dimensions and tolerances shall be a part of the guidelines. The standards shall apply to all facility improvements including new construction, renovation, remodeling and maintenance.
The department of facilities planning and design shall be responsible for coordinating the development and updating of the technical guidelines in coordination with construction management, purchasing, risk management and facilities management. The facilities planning and design department shall be responsible for assuring that all capital improvement projects conform to the technical specifications. Each individual department is responsible for assuring that all facility maintenance work conforms to the technical guidelines.
