RECOMMENDATION: Approval of the grant proposals to be submitted by September 18, 2009, commonly referred to as Proposition 1D, Round 3.

FISCAL IMPACT:
The district is preparing proposals for 12 projects and if successful will receive up to $3,000,000 for each project that is new construction and up to $1,500,000 for each project that is facilities modernization. Matching funds are required.

The estimated cost for preparation of the grant proposals by a grant writer is $2,000 per project, for a total cost of $24,000 to be funded by Career Technical Education (CTE) funds.

BACKGROUND:
The Board of Education approved the district’s Career Technical Education Plan on July 27, 2007 and also approved the submission of proposals for Prop 1D, Round 1 and Round 2. The district has been successful in receiving over $24,000,000 for new CTE facilities or modernization of existing CTE facilities. The attached list of 12 projects proposed for Round 3 has been approved by the district’s Career Technical Education Advisory Committee and was developed with input from site administrators, CTE teachers, and College, Career, and Technical Education staff.
