First Paperless Meeting Held By TPS Board

The Toledo Blade (Toledo, Ohio)

Article published October 28, 2009

The Toledo Board of Education is going paperless to save money and be more open to the public.

The trial run last night at the board's meeting had some hiccups, but the board is giving itself several months to make the full transition by January.

The software TPS bought, called BoardDocs, allows it to create agenda materials electronically and share them through the Internet. The public can look at the materials ahead of the meeting and be better informed on the topics, board President Bob Vasquez said.

It also will save the $900 to $1,400 in monthly printing costs for the board and committee meeting materials, TPS Treasurer Dan Romano said. That doesn't include the staff time to create, print, and distribute them.

The software cost the district $1,000 initially and $9,600 a year at a discount through the Ohio School Boards Association.
